The Apparent Molecular Weight of Air

Learning Objectives:

Students investigate whether or not air behaves as an Ideal Gas.

Procedures:

Students test samples of air in sealed Erlenmeyer flasks to determine whether or not air behaves as an Ideal Gas. Next, they measure the relationships between volume, temperature, and pressure in each sample. If air behaves as such, they can use the Ideal Gas Equation to find its ˮapparentˮ molecular weight.
