Spectrophotometric Analysis of Copper

Learning Objectives:

Students examine absorption spectroscopy using the Beer-Lambert law, which states that absorbance of light is proportional to concentration.

Students measure the absorbance of copper solutions using a spectrophotometer. They graph the concentration of known copper solutions vs. the absorbance of those solutions. They use that graph and the absorbance of solutions of unknown concentrations of copper to determine the unknown concentrations.
