Centripetal Force

Learning Objectives:

Observe relationship between force and speed, mass and speed, radius and speed of an object moving in a circle at constant speed.

Procedures:

Students attach masses to each end of a string and swing them horizontally in a circle, calculating speed by measuring the time it takes for the stopper to travel a certain number of revolutions. By testing varied weights and lengths, students collect enough data to properly examine the impact of mass, velocity, radius, and force.
